Aerial Photography Basics

 Aerial photography has been around for a while, but not many people know it. In fact, it only took a year for aerial photography to become a commercially viable practice. Before this, aerial photography was only possible with a licensed pilot flying an aircraft. Nowadays, aerial photography can be carried out with drones as well. But these drones require special permissions and can be dangerous. If you plan to fly one of these drones, it is best to first learn as much as you can about it before flying.

To take aerial pictures, you will need a camera with a high-quality lens and a camera with a high-speed shutter. Unlike drones, a plane will go higher and further and will be cheaper. Also, a plane is more stable, which is essential for taking high-quality pictures of an airplane. You may also want to purchase a gyro stabilizer for the camera to minimize the chance of blur. Depending on the camera you choose, you can also use a telephoto lens to capture a wide-angle shot.

Most aerial photographs are not a single picture. In most cases, an aircraft will fly over the area that needs to be photographed and take a series of pictures, each of which overlaps the previous picture. The overlap is usually around fifty-six percent, so that a little detail from the ground shows on the next photo. Additional flights must be parallel to the first flight to allow for this overlap. If there isn't an overlap, you may have to make more than one flight.
